Updates

Well, I realize that I left you guys hanging with my last post (and when I say "you guys", I'm referring to my a very miniscule section of online readers who only appear as a view because they just happened upon my pages). So it's update time!

I got a job! May not be able to put in too many hours since I'm adjusting to college life, but it's feels great to earn my own money.

Finals are coming up, and I must say, what is considered to be "hell week" in high school is absolutely NOTHING compared to what is considered "hell week" in college. STRESS. Got 3 final exams, 1 music video to create, 1 term paper (at least 8 pages long), a group of make-up exercises, pre-enlistment... Just... MEH.

I know it doesn't sound like much, I guarantee you it is! Especially if you have work, like me. Okay, no offense to the upper classmen intended here. I'm sure that as I go further along it will get much more difficult, and that what I have to contend with at present, in terms of academics, is not nearly as much as what you have to. But still. Don't tell me it doesn't suck because it does. Learning on the job is what people do, 'kay?

PEACE OUT!

Twas the Night Before the First Day

I'm here! Typing in my room at the boarding house! Dumbly realizing that I might have forgotten to pack a couple of important things... Oh, well. Mostly I'm comfortable.

Anywho, I think I'll like it here. Heck, I already do!

The people here are so nice. My room is great. It's tiny but cozy.

My housemates are great. One's studying Community Nutrition while the other is Music (piano)! Can't wait to go with them to the Freshman Welcome Assembly tomorrow morning!

My first meal here: Dinner. Interesting, because it was the first time I've ever eaten mussels! They're surprisingly... okay. I thought they'd be slimy and disgusting, but they're not.

I am happy. Can't wait for... everything.

College is going to be THE BEST. I'm sure of it.

What's in Your Suitcase Today?

Hey, people! I have an extremely special announcement/rambling I'd like to share today!

I'm headed off to college!

I am really just, overjoyed! No kidding. My high school experience sucked, so I'm really hoping my college experience will be different.

Also, this will be the first time in my entire life that I'll be away from home most days of the week. Plus, it will also be the very first time I've ever stayed with complete strangers. A boarding house. All females. Yes. It's completely exciting and completely terrifying at the same time.

So I was packing my suitcase today, and I thought I might share its contents, aside from the personals. I don't know why. I guess I'm just in the mood for it.

Of course, the obvious applies: clothes, undies, shoes, sanitary items... Here's some stuff you might find a litte strange, but what I find completely necessary:

Matches and Magnifying Glass in Waterproof Case
You'll never know when you might be thrown into the wilderness, right? I think it's pretty useful. Well, thought about it because of two things: 1.) I recently watched "The Edge" with Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins [love the part where Hopkins is all, "I'm gonna' kill the motherf***er"] and so I guess I was put into the wilderness survival mode. 2.) I opened a cereal box and found an Avengers (The Hulk) waterproof case with a magnifying glass in it. I just figured I'd add the matches because, hey, they're useful!

Knife
My cousin once gave my a wooden pendant that conceals a tiny, but incredibly sharp, knife in it. I've decided to keep it with me... You know, for wilderness survival AND self-defense.

Wallet Tissue
IMO, the best invention since the thingy that allows you to hang hand sanitizer on pretty much anything. It's tissue... in a plastic wallet thing. Very convenient, useful and cute. You'll never know when you might need such a thing. Seriously!

Moisturizer
OK, normally I'm not one to moisturize because most moisturizers are skin-whiteners also. I mean, really? C'MON! Not everyone wants to be white, you know! I look good with a little color. But I have recently been getting a lot of pimples, and these days have been getting hotter and hotter... I know there's not much of a relation, but yeah it only has to make sense to me!

Toner and Cotton Balls
My acne is relentless. I was SO hoping that my skin would be flawless by first day, but, sadly, my skin wouldn't allow for that. Now aiming for: clear skin by first date. Please, please, PLEASE!

Journal
Must document my freshman year in college! It will definitely be a milestone in my life, no? I'd like to be able to look back on it once I'm old and have children or something.

Laptop
You know how most kids get allowance from their parents, right? Well, I'm not like most kids. I have to EARN my own allowance. Will be attempting to get online jobs whilst studying. Wish me luck!

Legal Documents
Specifically: my NSO and passport. Hey, you'll never know when you might need two forms of identification, right? Plus, I'm transitioning into adulthood. I need to learn to take care of my own legal documents!

Vitamin C
My immune system is normally pretty awesome, but I'm not taking any chances. *Aerosmith style* I DON'T WANNA MISS A THING! Also, acne... I think it will help.

So those are the only things I'd consider "strange" or "out of the ordinary" for someone to pack in their suitcases. That concludes today's blog post. Have a good day! And, Advanced Happy Independence Day (Philippines)!

Raindrops

Lately it's been raining so much. The air is freezing cold and the sky is way too dark and gray and sad. Everyone's been getting sick, including me. I've had some bad nauseated coughing and sneezing episodes. I also have a slight sore throat.
But, strangely enough, I feel the need to just go outside and let my skin soak in it. Something about the bitter cold of the rain is comforting. It chills me to the bone, but it's comforting. It's strange, I know. Comfort in discomfort. I don't know how to explain it, really.

Bread

I'm craving bread. Pandesal, to be exact. It is the most delicious kind of bread in the world. You can eat it with anything, and you can eat it with nothing, and it will still taste good. In Spanish, "pan" means bread, and "sal" means salt. So, literally, it means "bread of salt". Well, I'm pretty sure they use a bit of salt, but it's not salty bread.
Anyway, rice is a more complex carbohydrate, so I guess it's better than bread if you're trying to lose weight. But When you eat bread, you eat less carbohydrates in general, because they're mostly air.
I'm craving bread; bread that is absolutely smothered in butter.

Mushroom Killer

     NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
     I. Killed. THE MUSHROOM!
Let me explain that this was an accident, because I would never wish a horrible water-related death on any living thing. Here's what happened:
I went back into the bathroom, naturally to see that the mushroom grew. But I saw that it was shaking and that its top was folded. I thought it was dried up or something and just needed some water. So I tried to pour some and, well... I am not very good at aiming...
So I accidentally poured too much on the wrong place (*ahem* right on top of the mushroom). NO! It toppled over... Yes, the top fell off, then the stem fell down and the roots are... well, just roots. Actually, since mushrooms are fungi they don't exactly have roots... But you get what I mean.
Gosh, I feel so horrible!!! Let's hope that all those spores grow into mushrooms...

Mushroom Madness

The weirdest thing happened to me today. I wake up early in the morning to exercise, and I really needed to go to the bathroom. I come in and I see this thing standing on the blue mat on the floor. With sleep still in my eyes, I couldn't tell what it was. Then I realized:

It was a mushroom.

Can you believe it? A creepy, brown mushroom popped up overnight. And that's not the end of it. I saw more spores on more blank spots on the mat, and it's a relatively big mat. You know what that means? It means:

More mushrooms are coming.

It's so... weird! I understand how it happened, though. We seriously need a shower curtain... I can't believe we're going to have our own mushroom farm... in our bathroom!
